The production of animation is divided into 8 steps:
1 Concept design
2. Characters design
3. Background design (complex background, simple background)
4. Draw characters
5. Characters colouring
6. Drawing background
7. Background colouring
8. post-production (camera movement, lighting, editing, sound effects)
I'm responsible for background design & colouring and editing. The first is the background design, which is divided into two parts: one is the complex background, the other is the simple background. In the background design, I am responsible for designing and drawing complex backgrounds.
For example, I designed the scenes in the back-alley, as well as rooms, streets, etc.
I added a lot of Hong Kong elements to this picture in the back-alley, such as red minibuses, Sidewalk snack booth and so on. And add many details to the scene: such as water pipes, garbage cans, air conditioners, etc.
In addition to painting, I also try to use 3D models to create scenes, such as buildings and buses in the street. I use 3D models and try to add new elements to the animation.
The second is editing. I'm mainly responsible for editing, camera movement and lighting.
For example, in the back-alley scene, I used the 3D layer in AE for editing to express the sense of hierarchy of the scene. Use Camera Movement to increase the sense of picture.
Reflect
The team cooperation of this project is meaningful. In the whole production process of the animation, effective communication is very important. Only communicating with teammates can reduce a lot of necessary burden.
In addition, I am responsible for a lot of work in this project. I need to do 15 complex scenes in the animation. First, I need to conceive the props, perspective angles and matching with characters of the scene, and then draw lines and match colours. These complex processes make me feel collapsed. It took me at least 75 hours. Then I need to immediately merge the characters and background for post-production, which took about 21 hours. I am responsible for participating in the Pre-production and Post-production of the whole production process, and I basically have no chance to rest. But fortunately, my team member Kim helped me when merging layers, otherwise my workload would be too much and could crush me.
I learned a lot on this project, including the improvement of technology. The most important thing is to understand that prior preparation and planning are particularly important for the project, otherwise it will be very hard to get to the deadline. Therefore, I will make more detailed plans for my FMP in the next time because I am individual work.
